DNA SIG (3rd Tuesday of each month: 7:00 – 9:00 pm ET starting February 2023)
Description
7-745 pm – Research Like a Pro with DNA method
745-750 pm – quick break
750-815 pm – autosomal DNA, Y-DNA, and mitochondrial DNA explained
815-9 pm – Your DNA Guide method
All CCGS members are welcome to attend. If you’d like to have a reference to consult between our SIG meetings, consider Research Like a Pro with DNA (RLPwDNA) by Diana Elder, Nicole Dyer, and Robin Wirthlin and/or Your DNA Guide the Book (YDNAG) by Diahan Southard. We talked about these two books in January’s meeting. The basic difference is this: RLPwDNA starts with a traditional research question and moves into your DNA matches in an effort to answer that question. YDNAG starts with your match list and moves into doing traditional genealogy to determine how your matches are related to you. The books are not required purchases, just extra resources for you between SIG meetings.
This month, we’ll focus on Chapter 2 (Assess Your DNA Matches and Analyze Your Pedigree) of RLPwDNA and Staying Organized and Working Your Plan of YDNAG (beginning on page 17).
