Topic: “Qualifying Service, Qualifying Lineage” Proving the Patriot
Speaker: Eva Garrett
Description: By the end of this session, attendees will be able to identify and document qualifying Revolutionary War service, understand the Patriot service categories, construct a generation-by-generation lineage connecting an applicant to a proven Patriot, evaluate acceptable evidence for lineage documentation, and apply best practices to prepare accurate, well-supported applications while avoiding common pitfalls.
Bio: Eva Garrett has been researching her family history since 2007, although her interest in genealogy began much earlier doing genealogy with her mother. A lifelong history buff, she has always been fascinated by discovering how her own family fits into the broader story of history. Over the past 19 years, Eva has become deeply involved in the genealogy community, continually expanding her research knowledge and skills. Her formal genealogy education began with a 2007 workshop presented by the Cobb County Genealogical Society. Since then, she has taken advantage of numerous educational opportunities through local, state, national, and online programs. Eva completed the ProGen Study Program, an intensive 18-month professional genealogy course, and has attended the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) in Athens, Georgia, GRIP Genealogy Institute, and RootsTech where she further developed her research techniques and methodology.
An active genealogy volunteer and leader, Eva has served in several board positions with the Cobb County Genealogical Society. She is a member of the Georgia Genealogical Society and the National Genealogical Society and currently serves as Registrar for the Fielding Lewis Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Eva earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Kennesaw State University. Before retiring, she enjoyed a successful career in the commercial real estate industry. In retirement, Eva devotes much of her time to genealogy research, education, volunteering, and her mini-Sheltie, Sydnee. She also enjoys reading and is rediscovering hobbies she had set aside during her professional career.
