Topic: Finding Your Ancestors in Georgia’s Special Collections Libraries
Description: Georgia is home to countless archival institutions and special collections libraries, including local sites such as Kennesaw State University, Emory University’s Rose Library, the Atlanta History Center, and more. These institutions share the story of Georgia through books, archival records, and other original materials. But how can they help you uncover your family’s story? In this presentation, archivist Maggie Thomas will explore how these sites and more could be useful in your genealogy journey.
Bio: A practicing genealogist for almost 15 years, Maggie Thomas holds master’s degrees in both Library Science and Museum Studies. Now living in Savannah, GA, she was the Processing Archivist at Kennesaw State University for seven years and a Genealogy Research Associate before that at the Georgia Room at Switzer Library in Marietta. She is the Archivist and immediate Past President for Cobb County Genealogical Society and serves on the board of the Society of Georgia Archivists as well as a member of several other genealogical and historical societies.
